![]() ![]() Initially I lacked confidence whether this would be a book I would enjoy but I was happily proven wrong. I have heard Skellig mentioned in the past a number of times and on these occasions the feedback has always been positive. Providing a great opening in the classroom to have discussions about the questions they have such as, where did Skellig come from? who is Skellig? what happened to Michael’s baby sister? Did Mina & Michael stay friends? The ending I felt worked well as it left the reader with more questions and curiosity, it was interesting to find out there are still questions the author has about the story. I enjoyed the perspective of the story being told by Michael as you got a real sense of his emotions throughout the story especially dealing with his baby sister being poorly, family and friend relationships and his discovery of Skellig. The structure of the writing gave the story a fast pace to it with the short and quick sentences which in turn-built suspense throughout the story. ![]() ![]() I really enjoyed the style of writing David Almond used in the story theĭescriptive writing really helped the reader to engage in the story, the detail used for the description of Skellig was intriguing. ![]()

![]() ![]() This edition includes a biographical afterword. By following the changes in the social and economic circumstances of the Ambersons, Tarkington gives readers a realistic glimpse into a time of great social and economic upheaval in the United States. “The Magnificent Ambersons” explores this phenomenon of late 19th century and early 20th century American life by tracing the fall in wealth and social prominence of one fictional family who find themselves displaced by the rise of industrial tycoons and land developers in a new and emerging urban landscape. Following the American Civil war, the second industrial revolution gives rise to a new group of wealthy individuals whose fortunes and political prominence begin to displace that of the aristocratic families of the past. The Magnificent Ambersons (Growth Trilogy Vol 2) Version 2. First published in 1918, and awarded the Pulitzer Prize in 1919, this novel follows, through three generations, the decline of the Ambersons, an aristocratic family of the upper-class society of Indianapolis. Where do I start? Do I lament sheepishly how I’ve slept on bell hooks my entire adult life, and it is only now, at thirty-three, now that she has passed, that I’ve made time to read even one of her books? Do I confess that this was a revelation, that it was exactly the book I needed here and now?
